Dear NAPALSA Affiliates, Members, and Supporters:

The National Asian Pacific American Law Student Association (NAPALSA) serves to represent the interests of Asian Pacific American law students and provides advocacy, support, and networking opportunities for its members throughout the United States. Originally created in the early 1980’s, NAPALSA helped to springboard the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) in 1988. In November 2008, NAPALSA proudly celebrated NAPABA’s 20th Anniversary during our annual Conference, which partners with NAPABA’s Annual Convention. NAPALSA continues to work alongside NAPABA to create a unique networking and professional event for students to interact, socialize, and learn from current Asian American legal practitioners.

Though the legal profession has come a long way in recognizing the importance of minority representation, dedicated work is still needed to diversify our field and ensure that the our leaders reflect the varied demographic make-up of our nation. Diversity is imperative to best meet and understand the advocacy needs of a society filled with difference, and the most effective way to strengthen diversity is to support the developing leaders of the Asian American community and to provide them a mechanism to exchange ideas, collaborate, and learn from each other.

2009 is a year for NAPALSA to grow in many ways. Ambitious plans are in the works to expand membership, create new networking opportunities, and develop stronger connections to our local communities. We seek to be, not only the consolidated voice of Asian American law students, but also a great advocate and representative for all Asian Americans. We welcome inquiries, questions, and comments from our members, law students from across all demographics, or from others interested in our organization.

Best regards,
