The NAPALSA Board of Directors is an incredible opportunity to be a part of the largest (and only) student movement of APA law students. Not only do students on the Board of Directors get a chance to engage in national issues affecting the APA legal community, they do so while acquiring unmatched organizational leadership experience. Applications are due Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 5:00 pm.
Elections will be held at the NAPALSA conference on Friday, November 8 at 4:00 pm. 

There will be a transition meeting on Saturday, November 9 at 2:00 pm for newly elected board members.


To be eligible for candidacy, you must be:

  • A current active member of NAPALSA (either through a dues-paying Affiliate or individual membership);
  • Maintain status as current law student in good standing;
  • Plan on attending the NAPALSA conference in Austin, TX in November 2019
  • Review and agree to adhere to the NAPALSA Constitution and Election Bylaws; and
  • Able to commit to your position throughout the full 14-month term, beginning on the date of installation (November 9) through January 31, 2021.
Candidate qualifications considered are:

  • Ability to demonstrate leadership experience and excellent communication skills;
  • Capability to handle multiple projects and deadlines; and
  • Commitment to bettering the Asian Pacific American legal community.

  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Conference Chair
  • Public Relations Chair
  • Regional Directors for five (5) regions: Pacific Northwest, Midwest, Southwest, Southeast, and Northeast

Application Process

All candidates must submit the following information and materials to secretary.napalsa@gmail.com by November 2, 2019 at 5:00 pm. These materials will then be disseminated to the voting members of NAPALSA:

  • Cover Sheet that includes: Name, Position(s) Desired, Law School, Anticipated Graduation Date, Mailing Address, Telephone Contact Number, and Email Address.
  • Contact name and email address for your local APALSA Affiliate OR verification of your individual membership status with NAPALSA.
  • Brief Candidate Personal Statement
  • 12-pt font, double-spaced, two-page max. (This does not mean you need to write 2 pages!)
  • One-Page Resume
  • Letter of Commitment (signed and dated)
  • Photo (optional)


In the past, some candidates have distributed campaign materials before and during the Annual Conference. To ensure fairness to all candidates, there will be a $25 cap on the amount a candidate may spend on campaign materials. ALL MATERIALS must first be approved by the Election Committee before distribution to the Voting Members. Please email secretary.napalsa@gmail.com to obtain approval. Campaigning is not necessarily recommended or required for successful candidacy; it is simply an option.

General Membership & Election Meeting

The General Membership & Election Meeting is Friday, Nov. 8 at 4:00 pm. Please check the room number of the meeting when you arrive at the conference site. All candidates will be given an opportunity to make a Candidate Statement (between three (3) to four (4) minutes long) and answer questions from the Membership and outgoing Board of Directors. After all candidates have had the opportunity to make statements, ballots will be passed out to each Voting Member. Ballots will then be collected and confidentially tallied by the Election Committee.

Election Results

The election results will be announced the same day. Winning candidates will be required to attend a transition meeting with the outgoing Board of Directors on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2:00 - 3:30 pm and will be formally inducted into their positions at the NAPABA Gala Dinner. Attendance at both events is required, barring extenuating circumstances. If you are unable to attend either the transition meeting or the Gala, please notify the Secretary immediately.
